چکیده
Extracardiac murmurs originating in vessels either within the thoracic cavity or in the chest wall can be sought by applying clinical auscultation to non-precordial sites, i.e. right anterior chest, axillh, and back. Recognized causes of such murmurs include branch stenosis of the pulmonary arteries (D'Cruz et al., 1964), coarctation of the aorta (Spencer, Johnston, and Meredith, 1958), bronchial collateral circulation (Campbell and Deuchar, 1961), arteriovenous fistulh of the chest wall (Levine and Harvey, 1959), pulmonary arterio-

Etiology of pulmonary artery dilatation and hilar dance in atrial septal defect.
Atrial septal defect is associated with increased diameter and pulsation of the pulmonary arteries. The high pulmonary flow rate produces turbulence and a murmur. Intraluminal pressure is normal and vessel wall elastic properties may be altered as in poststenotic dilatation. Pulmonary artery angiograms in 6 normal patients, 9 with pulmonary stenosis and 10 with atrial septal defect were recorde...
متن کاملAn unusual cause of a continuous murmur simulating persistent ductus arteriosus and associated with other congenital cardiac defects.
A continuous murmur like that of a persistent ductus arteriosus produced by a stenosed branch of a pulmonary artery with a post-stenotic dilatation is presented in the following case. Other abnormalities included a hypoplastic left lung, atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, and an absent left pulmonary artery. The literature on congenital heart disease contains increasing numbers of...

‘J’he patient is a 30-year-old asymptomatic man with a heart murmur first discovered two months prior to his referral to the Mayo Clinic for cardiac evaluation. Physical examination revealed right ventricular lift, grade 2/6 ejection systolic murmur at the pulmonic area, and persistently split second heart sound. A mid-diastolic flow murmur was heard at the left lower sternal border. The roentg...

Case report A 5 year old asymptomatic girl presented with a heart murmur. Echocardiography established a clinical diagnosis of a large secundum atrial septal defect. A right aortic arch was also noted. The origin of the left pulmonary artery was not seen from the pulmonary trunk and was subsequently seen to arise from the right pulmonary artery anterior to the trachea (fig 1).Oesophagography sh...
